Use open hr20 with domoticz

Post by Redguy »

My home is provided with heating through a central heating system for the whole apartment building.

No thermostat, no opentherm.. Just a bunch of radiator with manual valves. Not very user friendly since i work irregular hours and days..

I installed Honeywell HR20 programmable valves a long time ago.. A bit better but still..

The firmware of these thing are limited, and turns out to be pretty crappy.

I looked at newer systems like evohome, very expensive though.. And most dont work too well without having control over the furnace through on/off or opentherm.

So.. I found open hr20 :

https://piontecsmumble.wordpress.com/20 ... on/#more-9

Its old but seems to improve the hr20's by a great deal. it gives serial port control but others even added rfm12 radio modules and a central litttle server daemon..

The rfm12b radio module is old and costly I believe, but replacing it with something more modern shouldnt be too hard.. Maybe hook it up to a mysensors node or esp8266

Room temperature sensors are already available through 1820 1-wire sensors.

But how to integrate this into my domoticz system and setup a nice multiroom heating system??

Have it monitor our phones to see if anyone is there etc..

I suggest look at the implementation parts. Its using openwrt and 24/7 php-script for controlling the valves.

What you can do is try setting up (download unzip/untar or whatever), debug the script and try to copy the controlling parts into bash or php-scripts and call these from the 'dummy' switches and devices in domoticz.

After that it maybe worth to spend the time/money to replace firmware and add communication to those valves.
