Mix z wave plus and z wave (no plus).

Post by Homer57 »

Hi,
I am using some danfoss lc13 and now i would like to insered some z wave plus sensors.
Is z wave plus using an another protocol for the communication?
I will have 2 network ( z wave and z wave plus)?

My static controller will be far from the new z wave plus sensor, that s why he has to communicate with the danfoss lc13.

Is that possible?

Thanks

Yes, but communication will be 'normal' zwave. The plus advantages don't work if the plus node can't communicate thru other plus nodes to the controller.

Ok thats mean that a zwave plus sensor is usefull just if the another are also plus ?

Or is the last network in this picture correct? The z wave plus module will be directly connected to the razberry

And the another zwave module will be connected to the zwave module plus

That’s mean that I have two network ? and the zwave plus can both z-wave plus and not plus, he can translate the protocol

Although most of my nodes are Z-Wave, my network is greatly improved by the Z-Wave+ Gen5 Aeotec stick controller.
Transmission power seems to be higher, receiver sensitivity better.
Z-Wave and Z-Wave+ interconnects.

Put your stick on a short USB extension cable to get it out of the blocking surrounding and play with the with the height and position (within 17cm, the Z-Wave wavelength).
Why? Google on "Multipath interference" and "Multipath propagation".
A concrete obstacle is able to absorb 90% of the signal. The worst is, to try to pass a floor, under an angle of 45degrees.
Try to use a node in your hall where your stairs are to relay to another floor.

I know that the Z-Wave and Z-Wave+ are interconnects. but the question is how ?

Do you have 1 or 2 network ?

just 1 network

just one network, thats mean that you have no advantage from the plus ?
perhaps the new usb stick has more power... thats why you think thant the network is better

thats mean that if you have just 1 sensor with the Z wave (no plus) all another sensor (also plus) will work with the Z wave (no plus) network.
if you just have one z wave all another z wave plus advantage will be useless :s

that s crazy :s

Take a look here http://www.vesternet.com/what-is-z-wave-plus
and think for yourself what you need and what is supported by OpenZwave.
I'm very happy with the improved range.

thanks for the link but he explain:
If you have a complete Z-Wave Plus system, where every device is of the new Gen5 variety, then you wouldn't have any issues. They would work together seamlessly (better than any Z-Wave system so far), and you would get all the benefits that the new features offer such as extended battery life, much longer range and increased bandwidth. However, this is probably not the way you'll initially use them - you'll use them with existing Z-Wave devices, sensors and controllers based on the 300-series and 400-series Z-Wave chips. This is where you need to be a little careful.

that s why I don't understand why you said that you are happy with the improved range.

You have an improved range because you have one more sensor (it is exactly working as a normal z wave).
On the link they explain that you have to have all device with z wave plus, in the another case you have no advantage from the plus

Sorry, wrong word: ... range.

Not adding a new device but replaced the controller by a Gen5 version.
I have an improved stability of my network since my controller is Gen5 stick. (thanks to higher Tx, more sensitive Rx)
I can reach all the nodes and all the nodes can reach the controller.
That was not the case with my Aeon Z-Stick S2 stick.
I have no battery devices, I'm not aware of Z-Wave Plus commands (I doubt OpenZwave does)

Sorry, another 'me too!' but I replaced my Aeon S2 with a Sigma Gen 5 and have similar improvements in stability and connectivity.
Zwave - Sigma Z+ stick, Fibaro, Horstmann, Neo Coolcam, EUROtronic
RFlink - IR detectors and temperatures
Wifi - YeeLights, ESP32s, Anoop sockets
Zigbee - lots with zigbee2mqtt and ZbBridge
