Not sure if another zwave controller is better. The advantage of a usb controller is that it can be used on different hardware.

I am Raspberry B+ (the latest) with Z-Wave.me USB dongle (very small) and it works very well. Aeon Labs is not so good as it makes the Rapsberry crash time to time. Probably due to the battery in the USB key. Thereore Z-wave.me works very well with me !
I have another post asking for a backup solution for this one but not yet resolved.

I don't know where you got this info from, but I have an Aeon Labs since a few months and have not had a single issue with it. From reading the forum, I get the impression it's one of the most used Z-wave interfaces with Domoticz.
Nevertheless, the Z-wave.me stick could obviously be just as good.

Aeon Labs Gen2 USB Dongle, plugged into a powered usb hub at the end of a 30ft USB cable... been running well over 2 years solid, never given me trouble and has never had to be reset.
