Domoticz

Hi,

As you know, many domoticz users are using the system like me to pilot awnings, gates...; or just to check in their return information.
I think it could be profitable for the community to have the corresponding switches for these commun equipments we most have at home.
Nothing exotic but only standard equipments we need to pilot or to check for home security, alarm...

So I'm asking developpers to include for the happy new year these new switches types:

- awning
- roller gate (horizontal opening for home garage door and garden roller gate ) could looks like 'blinds with percentage%' with +/- 90° rotate
- vertical garage door could looks like 'blinds with percentage%'
- gate (horizontal opening like butterfly for home garage gate and garden gate)
- shutters (horizontal opening like butterfly for home windows shutters)

Do not forget windows (fenêtre in French) that could be also a switch type even if most of the time this system is manual. So first a nice icon with Closed/Open status will be fine. Today using a light to say that the window is Open is not very sexy.

Please include for all of these items a percentage% option as we are using fibaro fgrm222, somfy cracking... with return information (true data or by calcul..)

Remark: today i used some 'blind percentage' switches for awning, roller gate, garage gate... but it's not really readable

For icons most could be done by existing blind icon rotate,
but for awning and shutters new lisible icons will be fine (view some fibaro icons on web).

For most statuts or position:
On / Off
Open / Closed (Ouvert / Fermé)
will works fine

but for awning using: Out / Closed (Sorti ou déployé / Fermé ou Rentré) will be more readable.

I hope that the R&D will read this post and will decide to do the job to include these standard and commun equipments in the interest of All.

Of course for more exotic systems, we will have to custom...

I agreed with you. Domoticz is live for many years now and it will be time to have all switches and icons for main house equipments.
Fibaro system could be a good model as this system include all house entry points and main equipments.

I have just installed Domoticz and I want to make sure that the problem which I have is similar to what you request.

After reading the read me pdf I know that I could add new Icons for the ON/OFF Switch type, but I can't add a new "Switch Type", and that's what you are requesting here. To add more options.

For example the "Contact" switch type can be used for doors or windows, but I found the icon not suitable for representing this. So you request to add new switch types like windows, doors, shutters, gates etc...

I have just switched from OpenHab to Domoticz as I found the GUI and processing time in Domoticz better that OpenHab, but OpenHab gave me the ability to define any new item I need, which is not available in Domoticz as far as I figured out till now.

Am I correct ?

That is correct.

In my case I don't have any sensors on doors just on windows so what I have done is to replace the default icon set for 'contacts' with a set which look like open and closed windows. In this way the icons look right in the Domoticz dashboard and show as being 'Open' or 'Closed' rather than On or Off which it would be if I defined them to be switches which would then allow me to easily choose a different icon.

Naturally if in the future I did start putting sensors on doors then these too would look like windows in the dashboard and look a bit odd.

I agree that the ability to have different icons for devices other than simple switches would be a big improvement. Although it would seem that doing this should be relatively easy, I know that this feature has been requested a few times and still isn't there. It may be that it is not a easy is it might appear, not being a developer though I'm not in a position to judge.

Actually I guess this is a must to be added. Domoticz is one of the strongest opensource home automation systems. I hope they will add it soon.

In order to upgrade a home, we have to change many things. Sometimes we have to pay heavy renovation cost and repair charges. But this only keeps our home stand for many years. In this case doors and windows play very much important role. Recently my neighbor had installed impact windows Deerfield beach which provide protection from natural hazards and keep our home safe and secure.

Strange ad in this thread. Anyway besides the point. This is something I missed by the motion/contact sensors more icons!

I use a contact sensor to detect for example if airplay is on/off, the fridge is on/off (both can not be switched) but am unable to change the icons. I can change it back to switches but then if someone accidentally pushes on it it's state got corrupted faster then... then... (fill in your favourite corrupt person here)

Anyway. Feature Request! Make it possible to choose other icons for the motion/contact sensors. Or make ik general for all sensors let you choose the icons. Would be neat!
