What is the most stable platform to run Domoticz?

Post by grant »

Hi,
I have been running Domoticz for a few years now and love the software!

I mainly been using raspberry pi devices and have always been struggling with stability and have frequent outages due to the service going down or being unresponsive.

I was thinking of moving across to another platform host as a VM on me ESXI server, so could run Windows or Linux if required and keep my existing Pi’s as remote servers.

So my question is: Whats is the most stable platform to run Domoticz?

Thanks

Grant

My platform is a Raspberry Pi 2 24*7 without stability issues. All my sensors are wireless MySensors. All stable as it could be.

Thanks Josh,

Can I ask what version you are running and how you installed it (sd image or a custom build)?

Do you use monit? if so can you let me know your monit config? the suggest monit configuration does not work with apache and Nginx.

I am running rfxcom from my pi2 and have two other Pi (the early b model) one with piface and the other a zwave stick.

Thanks for the Info!

Same here. Intel NUC with VMware ESXi --> Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS virtual machine --> Domoticz (compiled from source). See manual: http://domoticz.com/wiki/Linux

On my Synology NAS it also worked very stable, but it resulted in not letting the 2 HDD's sleep, so extra power usage.

I also use Monit on my Ubuntu setup, really handy.

Intel NUC under Windows. (Dedicated). Very reliable, but I have Windows Update set to manual so that I don't get uncontrolled re-starts.
This suits me because I have a Windows Home Server which does all my nightly backups and monitors the health of my PCs. (Also I have been working with Windows since the very first version which is comfortable for me ......... yep, I'm knocking on a bit  )

I'am curious to know what Grant choose for a stable Domoticz platform. I'm using two Rasberry Pi 2b (with Jessie lite) because of the unreliability of the Pi. My last problem was the update of Domoticz. It never worked until now, but unfortunately no Domoticz anymore. Furthermore, after a power failure ( installation work) ore a shutdown a real chance that Debian is corrupt ( mount problem etc.). A real frustrating experience until now.
Perhaps I use the wrong mem. cards, no idea.
I was thinking about Synology NAS, but hesitated after the remark of Thinkpad about the problem with the hdd.

Perhaps I'm lucky, or tempting fate, but I've been using a "Samsung Memory 16 GB PRO Micro SDHC Memory Card" in my Pi2 since the end of 2015.
Zwave - Sigma Z+ stick, Fibaro, Horstmann, Neo Coolcam, EUROtronic
RFlink - IR detectors and temperatures
Wifi - YeeLights, ESP32s, Anoop sockets
Zigbee - lots with zigbee2mqtt and ZbBridge

I am using Cubietruck with Debian Jessie + Integrated Battery pack in case of power outage.
For stability: SSD inside :D the case.

Domoticz is Monitored by Monit and a script I found here: viewtopic.php?t=15167#p111461 :D
Alerts I receive via telegram / sms or e-mail. In case something is wrong.
