Soft/hard reset controller?

Under the "Node management" button in the Z-Wave hardware setup screen, what exactly do "soft reset controller" and "hard reset controller" do? I don't want to press them and find out, in case I lose all my configuration settings.

Found this thread while searching for the same answer. A hard reset is that the controller gets a "factory reset". So all information and nodes on it will be wiped.

But what is a soft reset? Is it just a controller reboot without wiping or.... ?

I just tested a Soft Reset and my nodes disappeared from the Setup list. After restarting Domoticz they came back. The controller probably didn't wipe them. I still don't know what a soft reset does, but at least we know it doesn't remove nodes.

After that I tried a Hard Reset (which clearly states that nodes will be removed from the controller) and that does indeed remove the nodes. After a Domoticz reboot the Setup only shows the controller itself.

I think this will just trigger a z-wave controller restart, this may be useful if the controller does not respond anymore because it's internal firmware is hanged...

In fact, Domoticz only sends this reset if a tunable timeout (default = 60s) is reached. I runned into problems with this default when I only had a few peripherals in control-only mode (no sensors returning measures on a frequent time basis, only some heater control with planings), with very sparse scheduled commands, causing z-wave issues (command timeouts) because of these resets (it takes times to bring all z-wave network topology back, commands sent while doing so were missed).

Had to set this to several hours (> max time between 2 z-wave commands).

Nice to get some answers to my question, even if it took two years :)

Thanks guys, useful stuff to know.

Did a "soft reset controller" today, after that takes a while for the nodes to reappear in the list. Nodes that were deleted from domoticz reappear as well.
But the Name attribute is set to unknown and the Enable polling set to NO
