Hello there,
I've been using for quite some time an old domoticz version on a mini-PC.
I had to consider a hardware upgrade to get new capabilities (virtualization) and I'm planning to transfer my domoticz setup to this new hardware.
I know that upgrades were supposed to translate the database, but I failed in one trial. Maybe the version is too old...
What would be the best way ?
I must add a precision : I'm using some "hard wired" automation based upon device Idx. I'm very lazy and I would like not to have to rebuild 4 or 5 esp8266 devices just for that (ok, I could use the opportunity to go to MQTT or ESP-now, but, again, I'm lazy).
Cheers
P.S. : Using Ubuntu (20.04LTS on the old mini-PC, 24.04LTS on the new PC), but that should not be relevant (please say yes).
P.P.S. : I know I can modify the database to fit the Idx, that kind of a last resort thing for me...
Upgrade from an old version (2021.1) Topic is solved

I dont know what failed for you but it should be possible to open your old 2021.1 database in a 2025.2. It will convert it automatically.
Just be aware of some changes in the past versions that needs some attention, reconfiguring etc, see wiki page:

Re: Upgrade from an old version (2021.1)
Thanks !
I tried again and I found all my devices...
Ok, now, I have to "rewire" everything with a new Zigbee network and a different IP for the wifi stuff. Maybe I will start from scratch or I will use another software, I have to think about the laziest way to do this.
Cheers

Re: Upgrade from an old version (2021.1)
Why a new zigbee network? The usb zigbee stick holds all the data. What zigbee interface are you using, zigbee2mqtt?
And you could give your old device another IP adress so you can use the old IP for the new Domoticz server. Saves you some extra configuration on external devices.

Re: Upgrade from an old version (2021.1)
I just test uploaded a database from my production system on RPi2 from 2019 - version: 4.10717 to Ubuntu with Domoticz 2025.1
Everything seems OK, devices, scripts, even room plans.
I expected more trouble and I am very pleasantly surprised.
Big thanks to the author - programmer.

Re: Upgrade from an old version (2021.1)
I'm dreading having to upgrade too. I have 2022.1 build 14394 running on Ubuntu 20.04 but recently bought a new Philips Hue V3 bridge that seems to only run on a later version of Domoticz. I also read that to run the newest Domoticz, I will also have to upgrade Ubuntu. I have a whole variety of hardware and scripts (DZvents and Python) running and am sure upgrading is going to break some of these.
Good to hear that Kimot got through without too much trouble.
