[edit : please read below post (01-01-2026) where i descibe the problem better ]

Did someone allready investigated the new smart watermeters that are rolled out in 2026 in the Netherlands ? There is some small talk going around that is will become obligated soon.

Is there anything on this watermeter we can stiil detect with a sensor ? There is no api or interface available (yet?) --> so to keep functionality i need to replace my PNP type detector with something else i suppose.

Why ? If someone is in the shower a light blinks every 50 liter or 5 min of water consumption and gets more red as the value gets higher, i would like to find a way to keep this functionality, I also count the amount of warmwater, gardenwater we use.

I believe it is already implemented when using the DSMR P1 smart meter integration. There are already people having a watermeter connected to their P1 smart meter.

First of all the best wished for 2026 ! Thanks for this great platform ...

The problem is BrabantWater. They dont use smartmeter integration, in stead they launch their own platform Waterbewust without api and with a fee of 120 euro a year !! Absurt : they turn this into a money maker.

I have currently my PNP sensor device widely integrated in my home for detecting waterusage (coldwater, warmwater + Gassusage for warmwater, gardenwater Usage, leakage detection, blinking lights & colors during showering based on waterusage etc) By the insight of this i reduced waterusage a lot and even detected a faulty washer watervalve malfunction (small internal leakage)

So i am looking for some kind of a broker device that is capable of reading something of their device.

I think to see the device has a led that pules, but since i have no way to check i am wondering if someone has one of these devices or even better has one and managed to read it into domoticz.

That is crazy! That might be half of the price you pay for all your water in a year.
So forget this, and use a proximity sensor with an ESP32, that is how I track my water until there is one installed that works with the P1 meter

I looked at your github, i have something similar detecting on my current analog watermeter on the metal running arround when using water ( homebrew)

I dont believe a poximity sensor will work at the new digital meter they use. Maybe it has a blinking led on usage that we can use like the early days of digital electricity meters ? maybe I can replace my current sensor with an ldr

On the Kamstrup IQ there is an IR signal that can be read, see the following discussion:

The Sagemcom Siconia also seems to have an IR interface. Data (like the Kamstrup FlowIQ) seems to be transmitted to the water company by Lora (hopefully and probably encrypted).

from that threat :

it confirms what i suspected, it has an IR signal but is very limited compaired to current situation with my homebrew sensor.
The firmware of the kamstup has probably a battery saver so we get data very late.
Its a pitty this kind of vendors & watersuppliers dont think about homeautomation ... its al about the money.

lets be patient and see how things develop over time... maybe there will be something more exposed or firmware adjustements that helps us getting more values ....

i also found that the current elster meter is still available -> for the price of one year waterbewust platform i can buy a brand new one and place it in serie with the new watermeter. Could also be a solution

Or ask the engineer that is going to replace the meter to leave the current one in place and have the new one mounted before the old one (if there is space).

I also don't understand why they not lift along with the existing smart electricity and gas meter infrastructure.

If it has a blinking LED... maybe you can use a YouLess

For now i try to delay the install as long as reasonable possible.
