Also fell into the update trap

Unfortunately, I read the instructions in the forum after I clicked "Update".
Today I reinstalled my Raspberry Pi, Domoticz, and Mosquitto, and finally restored the backup.
Luckily, it only took two hours, and now I'm also up to the new Trixie.
Could the small but important warning "new version will not run without a prior operating system update" be included in the update notification itself?
Alternatively, could the Linux update run automatically beforehand?

See also the wiki:

But no, there is currently no functionality in Domoticz to warn users for possible breaking changes.
Also an automatic OS update is not possible (there are many OS's that users use......).

The suggested functionality would be very much appreciated. As a hobby programmer I always try to think for the user and make his life as easy as possible. Warning that an update can completely screw up his Domoticz instance, should definitely be on that list.

As this is open source software you are free to extend the usability of the update script... I am not able to program it due to lacking knowledge.

And for every update read the release notes.
For Domoticz, use docker, would have prevented you from the troubles you had.

As I said a few weeks ago this needs to use an uo to date update script instead of the old one that was in previous archive as such breaking changes are not always foreseable months before... or even years for those skipping updates.
So an upgrade script that 1st uload an up to date true upgrade script but this does not only need bash skills but server side changes.
Another option would be to have update script extract in update archive script and execute it instead of itself, taking care of not making an uograde script extract loop.

I'm running Domoticz on a Pi and always was a bit reluctant to run updates for this very reason.
However, I find this becomes less of a problem. The backup-restore functionality in Domoticz is easy, fast and effective. Spinning up the latest Pi OS became very simple since the Raspberry Pi Imager came about. Installing Domoticz on that new OS is straightforward. Total time involved in installing an updated Domoticz on a new Pi with a new SD card takes less than 30 minutes and not too much thinking. I like it.

I am very happy that I use ProxmoxVE. Always taking a full VM backup before upgrading. Mostly the included DZ update auto backup function is cool, but not always sufficient...
Proxmox already saved me a lot of time... backup (snapshot) is restored in minutes....
I did change hardware today. Now fully operational on Odroid H4 Ultra with the extra Netcard (4 ports).
Just moved the SSD's to the new Odroid and altered the network settings ( bridge and bridge-host)
