Will an RFXCOM LAN work together with a serial port version

The latest update to Domoticz broke my system (old PI) and forced me to reconsider how I am implementing my system.
I've decided to retire my Pi and at the moment, i've installed the Windows version on an always-on windows server I am using for my cam system.
For years I've just about got by with covering the entire house by putting my RFXCOM in a strategic location. Now, this is impossible to do as my server is in the basement and I cannot move it.
Option 1 : Buy a new PI and keep in the old location - but this will not improve on what was barely acceptable in the first place.
Option 2 : Get a LAN RFXCOM and have two RFXCOM's working on the same devices.
The cost of an RFXCOM and a new PI is roughly the same, so it's got to be one or the other.
I'd like to explore option 2 but I'm wondering if, firstly, would the two work together, and secondly, if there is anything special i would need to configure in my Domoticz instance other than add the new H/W as an RFXCOM LAN ?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
