Is there a really good looking theme out there?

Post by osirisguitar »

Probably going to upset a bunch of people, but I think that Domoticz's biggest drawback is its visual design. Whatever theme I choose, it feels like Java did in the 90s - something doesn't quite sit right, and the ui really feels dated.

I'm using simple-gray and it's not horrible, but it's definitely not great.

I want something that feels premium, and mobile first. I'm not a designer, can't make it myself. But I'd be happy to help out (I am a developer).

there are some other templates you could try and perhaps optimize like Aurora and machinon.
But also check wiki page https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Customization

Aurora and Machinon are great theme only a bit unsupported.
Machinon has some layout issues with the last stable 2023.2
Hopely somebody can give them a new boost ;)

I also always liked machinon. Would be great if someone would be able to properly maintain it. I am not qualified by any measure. I try to focus on adding incremental functionality into the mqtt autodiscovery which is already a challenge :D .

Machinon is the least bad of them. But it doesn't (forgive my wording)... pop. :-D

I think we all sort of agree that the UI of domoticz could use some upgrades and modernization.

But unfortunately, it is not easy to find contributors with UX/UI-design and development skills willing to spent time on re-design.

Most of the domoticz users that can contribute code-wise are 'back-end'-developers. Like yourself or are you able to do front-end as well?

But we are open for any good suggestion :)

BTW.. did you have a look at Dashticz? It is only an alternative for the domoticz dashboard, but looks nice and has many customization options. Definitely not a full replacement, but works well if you are looking for a 'control screen' type of dashboard.

What a great idea: let's motivate Sander (lokonli) since he already does dashticz 🙃. Make him the Chief UI/UX Officer (CUO). Now who can resist that...

I'm a backend developer who also does frontend :-D. That means I'm good with frontend tech, but not with graphic design (that some specialized frontenders are sometimes)

Great Idea. I am not a developer, so I cannot help there.. but in my opinion this is currently the biggest issue with Domoticz. I am using Domoticz since 2016 I think, never changed since then.. Also got issue's with Machinon theme currently after the last update, went back to the default Domoticz theme.

Ok, great if you are willing to spent the time. That is one down (front-end dev), so ‘only’ one to go (UX/UI design) Image

Hi. I am using Aurora, unfortunately not fully working any more and unsupported, I know. I have added some dashticz screens for monitoring and eye-candy. I am willing to help out on the design side of things, not a css or html coder though.

What specifically are you looking for? I am one of those people who built his own home battery using victron equipment. Giz got interested as well so now he has one. We are gradually developing functionality to manage, track and display data.

A proper energy dash is high on my wish list although many of the required base components exist.

I’m looking for a dashboard for my solar panel, P1 and my electic car. I want a easy overview where you can you can see the status of your energy management wich can be expanded with a battery. The home assistent is a good example.
If it has a graphic design the rest of the family can understand it also that is a plus.
Ps victron is next level energy
