I just felt I should mention this very nice hardware I am just discovering. With a USB adaptor you attach alarm cable, 2 cores, and the other cores can be used to transmit power (12-24V DC for the Creasol DomBus modules and other cores can be used for other low current DC supplies)
Devices get automatically populated in Domoticz once the Creasol modules are attached to the 2 wires which can split and wander throughout the house up to 1km distance, very nice for my old thick walled house. You can configure each multi-function end point using the "description" field in the Domoticz switch.
The USB stick is about 5€ and the devices are 20-30 € but they have multiple inputs/outputs.
I found the latency to be much lower than any radio devices and you have the ability to use cheap standard sensors. No pairing, mesh networking etc etc. The only downside is the need to run cable to every device, but for someone renovating or newbuild I think it's a great solid option.
