Read only 1 register from data block which contains 2 registers

Reading values from SMA inverter I want to split the Data Block containing 2 registers to read only 1 register.
Unfortunate SMA only allows to read the complete Data Block of 2 registeres 30771 + 30772 but if I could discard the first register the problem would be solved.
Now I can only read an INT32 starting at 30771, if I could use only 30772 (INT16 ?) problem solved but this is not possible with SMA so I get no value at all.
Any tips or suggestions ?
An additional setting in Hardware setup to select a certain register from the Data block would be very convenient.
