Hello all,

Many of us will know that Dark Sky has been bought by Apple some time ago and as expected the Dark Sky API will be terminated.

I received the following email:

Introducing WeatherKit
Hello there,

We wanted to let you know about a change coming to Dark Sky. Beginning on March 31st, 2023 the Dark Sky API will no longer be available. To prepare, we encourage you to learn more about WeatherKit, a new Apple API available on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and web that provides access to the new Apple Weather forecast data.
You can learn more here.
As always, we appreciate your support, and will continue to update you with any future changes.

You need to be an Apple Developer to have access... €99/year.

You know, for a company like Apple being in need is a second nature: From the garage to a 3k billion $ company, anything must provide value... But IMO Apple is wrong in charging developers this way. If they were successful in moving from original garage/DIY techie user base to those wanting dumb-proof devices and ready to pay for it, not sure those building for their ecosystem (already charged on the store) will be ready to be charged twice on data that are available freely by other means!

About the Apple Developer Program

If you’re interested in creating apps for distribution on the App Store, Apple Business Manager, or Apple School Manager, join the Apple Developer Program.* Membership includes access to beta OS releases, advanced app capabilities, and tools needed to develop, test, and distribute apps and Safari Extensions. You must be 18 years or older to join.

Individuals or sole proprietors/single-person businesses. Apps are listed under the developer’s personal name.

Organizations. Apps are listed under the organization’s legal entity name. Companies and educational institutions must provide a D-U-N-S Number (available for free) registered to their legal entity during the enrollment process.

Enrollment is 99 USD (or in local currency where available) per membership year. Your nonprofit, educational institution, or government entity may be eligible for a fee waiver.

Based on line 2 from bottom in quoted text,
is the assumption true that most forum members will have the ranking 'nonprofit' and therefore are eligible for a fee waiver?
Or is that too much 'positive thinking' related to Apple's practise?
