Domoticz

Hello,

As several french Domoticz users, I yesterday received a notice from google saying as of 30 may, no more login/password connect will be possible: 2 factor auth or "connect with google" (what the hell is this non standard crap?) available.
If someone knows how to cope with this for home automation (or clients like Thunderbird, google only advice to use a recent outlook... but I'm 100% Linux!)?
If not possible, I have 2 month to get rid of google...

Google was not able to "see" camera captures & private stuff: These were sent as encrypted attachments...

For now, I changed for another free provider (laposte.net, hosted by french postal service) for the email used by Domoticz & my own services linked to home management: I have 2 month to test reliability etc... Currently OK after 5 days.

I think these conditions will propagate to other countries soon & lot of users will have to move from google as well: They take users security in good care, but that should not be mandatory & made configurable.

Hope gmail is working again the great mailbox is very nive for camera backup...

Don't know if this'll be worldwide change, but received again notification that usual mail addr+password login will end by the end of this month (May 31 2022).

I'm located in France & others received the same message on french forum.

Had to give up with laposte.net, they stopped IMAP/POP+SMTP since almost a week. Had to go with mailo.com, another french provider of free mail accounts: Limit in mailbox size is 1GB, but that's enough for some notification purpose (even with some IP cam captures) checked&purged almost daily.

In the past I had an email account @linuxmail.org, which has become mail.com.
You can register a free email with 65 Gb of email storage. See: https://www.mail.com/

Should be enough, I think.

There seems no support of IMAP for the free service on mail.com. Only the premium services supports IMAP...

There is a solution to continue using gmail to send mails from Domoticz. What you need to do is:
1: on the google account security page enable two-step authentication for your google account, and
2: then generate an 'app' password that will only work for Mail.

The solution is described here:

Tested it yesterday, seems to work also with Domoticz.

I tried this and it stops working after about a day.
I have multiple app passwords for mulitple domoticz instances.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Nope. Works Iike a charm several days now.

A single password for each service type/machine type is necessary.
I use the same password in all my Domoticz instances running on linux

You probably mean "isn't" necessary. I have as well a single app password for all domoticz stuff (domoticz config+some services linked to it & hosted on the same machine).

No issue since 1 month.

You can use the same password for instances hosted on different machines.
A single password remains valid provided the couple service type (i.e. mail)/ machine type (i.e. PC or Other) does not change.
So for example, all the Domoticz machines running Linux that I administrate use the same password.

I did try this solution and with some help from this link https://support.google.com/accounts/ans ... 833?hl=nl it works now for a couple of days.

Indeed using a google app password

The less secure apps option is unavailable for use if 2-Step verification is enabled on your G Suite or Gmail account. You will have to get an app-specific password for Domoticzfor the SMTP to work. To do so, please follow the steps below:

Go to https://security.google.com/settings/se ... ppasswords and sign in to your account.
Select Mail from the list of apps available.
Select Other from the device list.
Enter your Custom Name. You can put “Domoticz” in it.
Click the Generate button.
Copy and save the password in the Domoticz password for email field.
Click the Done button, and that’s it.

The new Gmail app password way of working is described in this topic. Was it not working?

Not working for new gmail accounts..
I cannot get the good settings...
Perhaps some printscreen.

You have to switch on 2-Step verification first (!).
Then you can add App paswords in the same screen.
Use other, type 'Domoticz' and click on Generate
Use the 16-character password as password in Domoticz email setup.
