What to do with my christmas tree power plug?

Hi all,

I need some z-wave advise!

I have temporary used a z-wave power plug with extension cable, to switch my christmas tree on/off.
During the rest of the year I want to remove the extension cable and z-wave power plug.

What to do with the power plug:
- Exclude and include next year again?
- Keep in z-wave network, just remove the power plug and extension cable?
- Other options ...?

I have 3 of them (zigbee instead of zwave) which get switched if a domoticz variable has a certain value. This is done from a dzvents script.

I just change the variable so that the script won't change the plugs. Whether the plugs are then plugged in or not is irrelevant.

Everybody has his own preference. I leave everything as it is, because I don't need the outlet, because I use this device: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/HG06 ... dl-hg06338
So my advice would be, if you don't need the outlet let it stay in place.

A (net-powered) z-wave node is also a router in the mesh network. If you remove it or move it to another location, that might affect the reception of any nodes in it's vicinity. This is the same whether you exclude it or just take out of the wall until next year. If you exclude it, then include it next year, you'll lose a z-wave id: z-wave id's used a never re-assigned to a new node. So after 250 Christmasses, you'll run out of z-wave id's , or earlier if you've got a lot of z-wave nodes like me. On the other hand, a node that is included but not plugged in, will be shown as a 'dead' node in your z-wave nodes list. Your controller will still periodically try to send messages to it, and this might cause a slower response of your other z-wave devices.

So whether you exclude the device, take it out of it's socket (and store it with your christmas decoration) or move it to another location, you'll have to 'heal' your network to make sure your mesh keeps working correctly for all other devices. I personally take the same approach that EddyG does: I leave the plug in a socket, so it can still act as a router all year through.

I do also change the name of the of the device in Domoticz to have a $ in front of the name, that will remove it from all normal Donoticz screens. It will only still be shown in the devices screen, where you next year december can rename it again to remove the $, to make it show again.
