Raspberry Pi and Zigate USB power supply requirements, PSU issues, cable issues

Raspberry Pi has a page with information about the supported power requirements here:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... /README.md
In particular:
- Pi 3 needs 2.5 amp
- the official PSU for Pi 3, with a Micro USB, supplies 2.5 amp
- the Pi 3 can supply up to 1.2A to USB devices (such as Zigate)
Using Raspberry Pi 3 and a Zigate stick, I've encountered various issues that could be either the PSU or the cable.
Can anybody comment on any of these issues:
- what is the actual power requirement for each Zigate model? I couldn't find this on the Zigate web site
- can Zigate be put in a low power mode (for example, reducing transmitter power) to ensure it does not stress the Raspberry Pi?
- if the Pi 3 is connected to a supply capable of more than 2.5A, does that make it any more resilient with Zigate?
- not everybody uses the official Pi PSU. For example, some people can take USB power directly from a UPS or some other device. Can anybody comment on how to source Micro USB cables that can carry 2.5A?
