I just bought this cheap 433 receiver for my RFXcom433 and all switches increased from 4 to 6. Most went 2 up.

You can stick it anywhere you want. And it has an nice long cable.

Tnx. Unfortunately the seller is away.
What exactly do you mean switches increased from 4-6 ?
Can that be viewed within Domoticz?

That's too bad.

On the devices tab you see an reception number.

The higher the number. The better the reception is.

Does it really work? I just have 1 door/sensor just out of range.

Did anyone try to build a groundplane antenna like this one http://ukhas.org.uk/guides:payloadantenna?
To me it seems they will work better than the 1 piece antenna's like all in this topic.

I have ordered an extension cable to build such a groundplane antenna but it hasn't arrived yet.

Ordered one.
Received it after 10 days.
And yes indeed it does AMP the reception a bit.
Now I have to figure out the exact placement to cover my 'whole' property.
Thanks for the tip!!

Such a nice forum to share ideas and best practices.

Dragging up a thread but is the higher the dBi the better the boost/aerial will be?

For example this one claims to be 3 dBi http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3db-Antenna-4 ... 45f9e824aa

and this 5 dBi http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GSM-Antenna-4 ... 2ed86bc309

I'm looking at this style of aerial as it's behind the TV where the Raspberry Pi is.

Well FYI I bought the second one of my links and although it's pretty small it does seem to be picking stuff up that previously didn't and was quite far away.
So far thumbs up although we'll see if it's effected by interference from people etc over time.

I've got the same antenna a few weeks ago but it did not improve reception at all.

Maybe my original antenna is badly placed and this just improved it then.

I have it at the back of the house in the lounge where Raspberry Pi is plugged into the TV, I could get most stuff except the Garage (separate building) struggled to pick up motion sensor and I could never get sensor at the top of the stairs. It all seems to pick up fine now. I was a bit sceptical at first as the aerial is tiny, not much more than the original but (touch wood) seems to work ok so far :)

BTW my house is thick solid brick built, even internal walls.
