What z-wave dongle?

Post by jefft »

Hi folks,

What z-wave USB dongles are you using with domoticz - especially on linux systems - and how reliable are they?

I've been using Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5, but it runs into problems quite often - maybe every 6 months, something will happen that makes it hang and when I reboot, OZW sees no z-wave devices and reports a home ID of 0x00000000. To get it working again, I have to restore a backup of the stick's EEPROM - which isn't so bad if I've remembered to make a backup after adding new devices!

I get the feeling that something OZW does, isn't 100% friendly to the Aeotec Z-Stick and that perhaps a different controller would be worth a try. Ideally, I'd want something that has a backup utility and tools like Aeotec, so that I have the safety net of a backup of the stick if anything goes wrong or it fails.

What have your experiences with z-wave dongles been? Also, has anyone used the Aoetec with a large-ish mesh (mine's ~90 nodes) and domoticz without problems for a long time (i.e., stable > 2 years)?

Thanks!

Jeff
