I've tried a few different dimmer buttons, including Philips Hue, Osram, Ikea and Aqara.
Most of these have a procedure to join directly with a bulb or socket. This involves holding the button very close to the target bulbs, less than 10cm away and then pressing or holding some activation button.
In practice, I found the button doesn't always join with the bulb close to it. Last week I had a case where it joined with a bulb about 2 meters away from the bulb I was trying to configure.
In another case, testing the Osram button, I was trying to join it with an Osram bulb in the same room but it joined itself to all the smart sockets in the house. Somehow they all became joined with the same button simultaneously but it did not join with the bulb. Pressing the button would turn on all the appliances simultaneously, I suspect many users would find that type of thing inconvenient. Can anything be done to mitigate problems like this?

Re: buttons joining / pairing with wrong bulb or socket
Do you mean that placing the remote 5 or 10 cm far from the buld an using the TouchLink function will make the remote associated with an other bulb which is around and at a bigger distance than the 5/10cm ?

Lol, yep, 2 m is not bad for this feature ^^.
I don't know your network, but it s can be just a "group" configuration, the remote act on the group, it have just join the group of the more close plug, and act on all the group.to all the smart sockets
