I assume that this may have an impact on Domoticz Z-Wave users as well?

support for new things and new devices may slow down considerably. what works now, should work in the future... If i could actually code and actually had time, it would be great to help open source projects like open zwave, but i guess, like so many, i can't and a don't.....

Usually this should be translated into, ..I choose not to spend my time...

This is everybody's personal choice (and find with me), but it makes it easier to understand why these projects come to a halt, or considerably slow down.

True, but someone can only spend his time on one thing at a time. I just started coding in C# and started with the bare basics.
If I get and understand the basics, would that be sufficient to at least understand what has currently been written in C++ and build on top of that?

Ok, in the meantime I have read Fishwaldo's reasoning and I completely understand. It sucks to do this work and get only negative reactions. It is nice that he keeps the door open for people that really want to help! Unfortunately so far I fear I would fall in the mentioned "6 month" category. I have to be honest in that

Looks Silicon Labs is planning to release something targeting use-cases like Domoticz, on top of already availlable SW, this summer according to an answer on DrZwave blog:

"Silicon Labs has the Z/IP Gateway and Z-Ware layers which are available for free and in source code form for a couple of years now.
(...) I would recommend that the various Open Source home automation projects rely on that.

Silicon Labs expects to release a new interface this summer that may be more to the liking by the Open Source community than the rather heavy lift required for ZIPGW."

But this would mean a full rework of current z-wave integration IMO. Probably a huge job. Looks 700 version would be supported, indeed, that'll now almost certainly never make it's way in OZW.
