overhaul of Debian/Raspbian packages for latest Domoticz and Zigate

I'm planning to do an update of the Debian and Raspbian packages for Domoticz, the Zigate plugin and related utilities for flashing firmware
There is a general expectation that Debian packages always give a smooth upgrade for existing users. HTTP logs from the repository suggest quite a few people are using it now so I don't want to see any of them break on upgrade.
Can anybody make any comments about anything the upgrade preinst or postinst scripts may need to do to ensure existing users migrate smoothly, for either Domoticz itself or for the Zigate plugin? Or does the Domoticz and plugin code take care of any necessary data migration or changes to files?
One thing that is already on my checklist is to compile the next packages for a wider variety of CPU architectures. If anybody else has requests please post them here or in the Debian bug tracker issue
