Z-Wave relais overheating?

Hi everybody,

On the top floor of our house, we have installed sunscreens/blinds.

They're installed on the outside of the windows, like this:

They're controlled by this relais:

We've just recently installed this, so the relais is laying (in a waterproof electro-box) on the deck of the top roof-terrace.

Normally this relais works just fine. However, yesterday it was really hot outside. Ambient temp was 25C / 77F. However, the deck was so hot I couldn't walk on it.

From about noon until 15:00, the relais went dead.

My thought is, that is simply overheated an shut down. It is cooler today, so I'll check if it will stay alive. Tomorrow it's going to be really hot again, so I expect the relais will shut down again.

Keep you posted!

BR.

Hello,

I have some z-wave devices (not relays, but PIR+temp sensor, Siren...) installed in my (non insulated side) attic that can reach 55°C in summer when hot (>30°C) and sunny that just work fine since years. Most devices are specified for 60°C, some 80°C...

25°C is not so much, even if roof temperature inside closed box this may be much more: You may stick something that reflects light on the box + something between roof and box.

Another possible cause is triggering a temp sensor based short circuit detection security for this kind of module: Check specs.

Regards

temp 0-40 celcius.

I guess with the waterproof its also airproof? You need some cooling or a sun shielded house.
Perhaps ( as a start ) make an aditioal "roof" above the housing with some space in between, so your housing is not exposed to direct sunlight anymore.

Hi Guys,

I've not have had an incident of disconnect after this. However, it has been very hot again.
