Hi

I have an rfxcom with domoticz. I receive light switches, temperature, motion sensors and fire detectors from the neighbors. So probably the neighbor can also read my switches etc.
Is there a possibility to protect my own switches and sensors for reading and use by the neighbors?
For example, I am afraid that my fire detector is suddenly switched on by the neighbor.

Hi Peter,

If you can pick up the signal and control it without any form of authentication, so can others.

That's one of the biggest security issue with (cheap) 433 MHz devices

There's one positive point: not all neighbors have rfxcom.
Their switches must be set on the same channel as yours to switch your devices.
The negative point is that nasty people can cause harm.
Burglars equiped with a mobile rfxcom can test if switches can be switched and then enter your house.
You can harness your house by buying protected gear or switch to for example ESP8266 driven devices.

Side question:
Are there ways to harden these 'open' 433 MHz devices?

Reminds me that about 2 years back when I wrote a python script that saved all signals. After a few days, I replayed them around 6 am on a very, very early Sunday morning (came home after night of beers with friends).

All hell broke loose, lamps went on and off, doorbell's rang, babyphones starting cracking. Even a garage door opened...
People even got outside in their pj's to see what was happening. It was chaos in it's purest form.

About a week later, a new and bigger antenna arrived...

Real shame i lost that script in a disk crash (since then I Github everything)...

Clear. I was afraid I would get such an answer. I will use the more sensitive sensors with Zwave.
