I have a conbee II with phoscon/deconz and the deconz plugin, no issue with devices connecting or transfering their data/status etc. I also have quite a few Xaiomi temp sensors and door contacts + a few ikea tradfri lamps and dimmer switches, I have a tradfri router (on my first floor landing) and a CC2531 flashed with router software on the outside of my garage. The tradfri dimmers switches seem to connect direct to the lamps (I asume using it as a router/repeater as do a couple of the sensors) and all the lamps plus both routers connect to the Conbee and each other but no other devices connect via either of the other 2 routers and I don't know why, I thought a mesh network was about using the best possible signal path, certainly 3 of my Xaiomi sensors are in my garage at the bottom of the garden and as my CC2531 router is also there with an external antenna it's signal must be stronger than the Conbee which is in the house 50ft away, is this normal?

I've attached an image of the network map, the very top box in the pic is the cc2531 and the three below it are the garage sensors, as you can see there is no connection between them and the router they are right next to.

If anyone can explain this I'd be very grateful

Hello, a connexion beetween dimmer and lamp doesn't mean they are "directly connected" it mean the dimmer use the lamp as router.

Your network don't look so bad for me, just some tips.
- You realy need to have a bad connexion beetween the coordinator and the sensor for the sensor use a router instead of a direct connexion, sensor always prefer it even is a router is close to it. On my side to force connexion on a router I use some tricks, puting the sensor close the router for some hours during inclusion, ect ... , But on your screen connexions are green, so I think they are not so bad.
- Xiaomi sensor never change parent, so if you want to change the mesh, you need to re-include the device at final place.
- When using a CC2531 as router, connexions from it can be invisible, you have all connexion on your screen, but you can have invisible connexion, it's something normal, don't worry for that.

Right, but I think the algoritm think a direct connexion is better than using an mediator.

BTW, on the application, you have a button called "LQI" it print some value on connexion, (but never let it, it's just for test, cpu intensive), you can compare the value beetween the sensor<>conbee and CC2531<> conbee, I m not sure but the color seem more green for the connexion beetween sensor and conbee.

But remember theses values (and color line) are just indication.

Thanks for that wealth of information, I have looked at the signal strengths as you suggested, I'm actually really suprised too, the 3 sensors in my garage seem to have a stronger signal value than the router which is very odd as the router is mounted on the outside of the garage with a 6dbi antenna on it, the main reason for that was due to the large amount of glass on the rear of my house which I know has the metalised coating on it for heat reflection which doesn't play well with 2.4Ghz signls !
