Moving to Intel Nuc from Raspberry

Hi all,

After more than a year using domoticz on a Raspberry 3B+, with Razzberry as Z-wave controller, running Stretch, and due to how critical this service has become to my home, I've decided to move to a more stable and reliable platform as Intel Nuc. so the idea is to install Debian Buster on my new Intel Nuc8i3BEK 16Gb/500GbSSD as host OS and Proxmox as virtualizer environtment where a VM running Raspbian buster will be my domoticz server.

In my current RPi based system I have, as said, Razzberry as Zwave controller and Rfxtrx433XL as RF controller. As per my new Z-wave controller in Intel Nuc server will be the Aeotec Gen5 USB stick, my main concern is how to transfer my 100+ z-wave devices from the previous system to the new one (maybe using "receive config from other controller" hardware option?). And if it is possible, how will I deal with the rest of non Z-wave devices I have in current domoticz.db? If there is a comprehensive and detailed how-to procedure will be really welcome.

Probably, I will find more issues in my migration process, but I'd like to have clear this point at first.

Thank you very much in advance.

I've run my environment on Proxmox for about 5 years now, I think its a great setup.

To answer your questions:

1) Proxmox is not just the virtualization environment, it is the operating system you want to install (which is based on Debian Buster).

Download it here: https://www.proxmox.com/en/downloads/it ... -installer

Once you have Proxmox setup and your virtual OS (Debian Buster) setup as a VM (container is not acceptable):

2) RE your Z-Wave situation, I think your going to have to start from scratch.

You can do a controller transfer but many devices will not work because the new controller won't have conducted an interview with those devices which means it won't know how to fully control them. I have done this myself before moving from an Aeotec Gen 5 to a Z-WAVE.ME UZB1 and was not happy with the results with devices like motion sensors not fully working etc... I ended up re-pairing everything on a fresh network.

I moved from a Raspberry Pi to a NUC a couple of years ago. From memory I think that with the 433mHz devices it was as simple as backing up the Domoticz database & plugging the Rfxtrx into the NUC, installing Domoticz then restoring the backup.

I run Domoticz in Ubuntu. Out of interest, what are the benefits of using a virtualisation setup/
