Aeotec Z-Stick not appearing in Hardware Setup

I just did a fresh install of debian and Domoticz and my Z-Stick (Gen 2) is not appearing in the Hardware setup window. When I do a "lsusb" command at the command prompt, I see the CP210x controller, so I know the Raspberry Pi is seeing it. Looking for suggestions on what to try next - Thanks.

hello
I got this same problem. I did install the Domoticz on Asustor NAS and my z-stikc is Gen5. But if I add OpenZwave USB Hardware, there arent any SerialPort to select. If i do lsusb command there are /dev/ttyACM0 which is the Aeotec stick. For some reason the USB is not showing on Domoticz. The reason is not in the Domoticz app, because I tried to install Home Assistant app on the same environment with same hardware without success. The stick wasnt visible to the app.
Tried Domoticz + Aeotec Stick + Telldus Mini plug-in combo in Windows machine and everything worked well.

i think Asustor NAS missing cp210x USB driver.

So even if the stick is visible terminal
Code: Select all
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation:2.0 root hub
-->Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0658:0200 Sigma Designs, Inc.:Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 (ZW090) - UZB
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 125f:601a A-DATA Technology Co., Ltd.:unknown device 601a
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation:3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 03f0:0024 HP, Inc:KU-0316 Keyboard
that does not mean that it is usable in domoticz?
Maybe someone can help to install correct driver to asustor if it is possible.

Yes this info is sendt from the device.
Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 use CP210x drivers and someone with the kernel source and toolchain have to compile the driver for you.

Is this true? Or does it "only" need to be connected to the Container, as the current Domoticz 4.x version is Docker based..?
Mind with Domoticz 3.x all is working fine. Thanks.

Go to the device (Hardware) and check the port.
Serial port, check the pulldown list and select the
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-0685 chain!
Update settings, than active.
Cheers,
Mike

What you mean "need to be connected to the Container"?
The Domoticz version what I use is 4.11563. and it is Docker based.
I did get the CP210x driver from the Asustor forum and installed it but now i got problems with Domoticz itself. When tried to restart the Domoticz from the Setup menu received next error message:
Error: Error executing reboot command. returned: 32512

Somebody has been informed! A new version (v4.11605.r1) of Domoticz for Asustor NAS has been released!
And the reason is in the changelog: "- Add "/dev" folder binding to support Z-Wave/Z-Stick USB devices"
So everything works well now. Except...
There are only a few usb ports in the Asustor NAS so is it possible to use USB hub to connect different hardware to NAS and domoticz? I've put a Z-Stick and usb/serial-cable from geothermal heat pump with Rego motherboard to same USB hub and now there are only /dev/ttyACM0 port to select. And the error log contains:
2020-01-15 07:09:57.912 Status: Rego6XX: Using serial port: /dev/ttyACM0
2020-01-15 07:12:20.927 Error: Rego6XX: Reopening serial port
The Z-Stick still works.

I too, did a fresh install on a Pi4B with BUSTER and domotixz V4.10717
Initially my Aeotec Gen5 stick seems not even to be seen by the Pi because if I do a "lsusb" this is the result
Code: Select all
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2109:3431 VIA Labs, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
In Domoticz I only have the devices /dev/serial1 and /dev/ttyAMA0 both do not deliver communication to the Aeotec stick
If however I connect my ZWave stick via a veryvery old USB (2.0) hub I see the device so apparently there is someting wrong with the USB dirvers
Code: Select all
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
==>Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0658:0200 Sigma Designs, Inc. Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 (ZW090) - UZB
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2109:3431 VIA Labs, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Now I have 4 devices to chooose from in Domoticz
- /dev/ttyACM0
- /dev/ttyAMA0
- /dev/serial1
- /dev/serial/by-id/usb-nnnnnn
the device ttyACM0 delivers communication to the ZWave stick

Thanks for sharing this! A remarkable workaround, but at least a good one to get it done for the time being.
