New installation Pi3b+ and SSD

Hi,
i have a Pi3b+ and a 128GB SSD
I want to boot from SSD, so no sd-card needed anymore.
I followed a dozen of manuals to make this work, but nothing works.
I'm using this image: 2019-07-10-raspbian-buster-full
with the tool: Etcher
When im starting up my pi with the SSD connected, i get: resize root filesystem rebooting in 5 seconds
then the Pi wants to restarts, but nothing happens anymore.
Btw, this is the SSD i used before on my older Pi2
Anyone knows what i'm doing wrong?
Thanks a lot!

Have you activated USB booting? Try if an other raspbian version boots ok.

You have to set the USB boot OTP bit. You can check here.

it is enabled, i checked it.
i've now reinstalled again the lastest image 2019-07-10-raspbian-buster-full with Etcher to my SSD
Flash complete:1 succesfull devices it says
so seems all ok, then i plug in my SSD drive to my Pi3b+
Power it on, after +-5 seconds i see the rainbowpage
after that, i see 3 strawberry's (logo for Pi) and then it says: resize root filesystem rebooting in 5 seconds
after that, the Pi boots again, i see the led of my SSD flashing 4 times and that's it
no reaction anymore

Hard to say what’s going wrong from here.
Things you can try:
- Install a buster lite version
- Use a powered USB hub
- Write image with Win32DiskImager
- Write first to sd-card, do some settings, create backup and restore to SSD

ok, will try first with the buster lite version.
i'm using the 2.5A power supply, it worked with the same ssd on an older Pi, so it should work normally.
If the lite version does not work, i can just make a image of my sd card and restore it to the ssd drive?

Yes. You can try to restore the configured sd card and see if booting continues normally.
