Fibaro smoke sensor cannot communicate through repeaters

Hi
I have a problem with my Z-Wave Fibaro Smoke Sensor (FGSS-001). The sensor is located in my garage, far away from my controller, but close to a Fibaro wall plug (that acts as a Z-Wave repeater). My main controller is an Aeotec Z-Stick.
The problem is that the sensor, once put in the garage, does not communicate with the controller anymore, as if it wanted to directly talk to the controller, not using any repeater, even if the "Network and Groups" page in Domoticz shows that it is actually connected to them. When I try to wake it up (by triple-clicking the B button on it), it has no effect, Domoticz still sees it as asleep.
To solve the problem, I thought that the sensor needed to be put at its final place before trying to include it. So I tried three things (each time after a full sensor reset):
1) Bringing the sensor near the controller for the inclusion process. This worked, the controller got connected to many repeaters, but as soon as I brought it back in the garage, it stopped talking with the controller...
2) Trying to include the sensor far from the controller, with both at their final place. This didn't work, the controller didn't see that the sensor was trying to be included...
3) Bringing the controller near the sensor (the Aeotec Z-Stick has a little battery made for this). This worked, but the controller did not connect to any repeater, so once the controller back at its initial place, far from the sensor, they where unable to communicate...
How should I process to have this sensor talk with the controller?
Thanks,
Vic
