Google Home vs. Amazon Alexa?

Post by renerene »

I have been a satisfied user of Alexa for two years. Now, google is coming with Home in my language. Should I give it a go? Time to switch?

What are your thoughts?

I switched. The mini is a lot smarter and more accessible.

You can use Controlicz or ITTT to integrate Domoticz with Google Home (and the Google assistant) I have no experience with Alexa buth read somewhere that Alexa also supports both.
I myself am using a KaKu ICS-2000 for the integration. I don't want my Domoticz setup available from internet. Some people use muliple Domoticz instances/ devices for that so they have only one with limited functions extern accessable.

As written above I use a KaKu ICS-2000 wich I got cheap online. KaKu (or Trust) has native support for Google Home. Made a few groups on my domoticz for certain devices I want to be able to controll with Google Home. Whitin the groups I added a activation device that I created on the Kaku for this.
So I have only the devices/switches I want to operate with Google Home created on the KaKu and my Domoticz isolated from internet.

I really enjoy the alexa speak option, that came available in 2018.
Can you also make Google speak?

i have both the google mini and the echo dot . use it with Domoticz thru controlicz .
I am seeing much longer "reaktion times" with the mini than the Echo.

Do any of you have same experiences ?

Not in my case... Letting Google talk is much faster.

Hi Heggink,

Could you describe which solution you use for Google Home Mini ? Is it controlicz ? If yes, it's not free anymore, correct ?
