Ciao,

I'm in the process to start the migration at my home from zWave to KNX (gess my wife what could think about it.... ).
zWave will still be there (for Danofss LC13 thermostat valve and other battery sensors like Pirs, reeed and other)
Domotics will be performed by KNX, but Domoticz will still have a major role in managing the house and scripting

Since there is no an hardware connecto between Domoticz and zWave my intention was to make all working toghether with mqtt/node-red

The migration will be extremely slow (KNX is NOT cheap.... really!!!) so I would like to have your opinion and experience about...

btw.... I will have tons of wired zwave devices to sell!!!

Interested in this. I did go through something similar a while back (zigbee to z-wave), as my zigbee network got smaller I started to struggle with connectivity. I guess you may end up with the same but z-wave.

Why are you leaving z-wave in exchange of KNX? What about Insteon? Have you heard about monoprice?

Genuinely interested in your progress. I have similar thoughts but really looking for an economic mainstay signal that can do wireless too. Insteon seems nice but there is no much Domoticz experience there, besides I think is very US

EdddieN, I've been decommissioning Z-Wave devices in my home and replacing them with Zigbee (mostly Xiaomi, Philip Hue etc..) using Zigbee2MQTT and Node-Red.

I can't understand why you would want to go from Zigbee to Z-Wave? What was the reasoning, are you happier with the Z-Wave system?

My experience is the complete opposite.

I recently got the KNX certification and since I do not work with KNX on a daily basis, my home would be my natural playground.
more... I would like to lower consumption (I have almost 50 devices that uses 1w each... that's not much, that's not so little)
zwave is a good protocol, but it's a wireless... it means that it will work fine until the 868Mhz band is not full....
I'm starting to have issues on some nodes and I think it is for strong interferences
And most of all... I assume that KNX will rise my home value (maybe in case we will need to move )

With ZigBee I had to have some gateways which is a bit of a pain. I prefer to have one gateway and that is it.
I found z-wave very stable, including my messiness...

I think wireless networks will always have challenges when selling a home. Who owns and manages it? Wired would be future proof but we cannot ignore popular wireless networks.

I don’t have any experience with KNX but I’m starting to hear it on BMS system on top of the ever popular BacNet.

Don’t think Domoticz supports BacNet yet, does KNX or Insteon?

That used to be the case before Zigbee2MQTT and some other projects,

I've recently moved all my Xiaomi and Philip Hue devices onto Zigbee2MQTT (and subsequently removed the Xiaomi and Hue hubs).

I think Zigbee2MQTT could become the OpenZWave equivalent for Zigbee, it's very exciting.

yes, KNX is NOT cheap, and yes, you need a TP bus cable (2 wires rs485) and more... you need a 1k€ licensed software

Ouch! Still interested on the wired option. Insteon sounded good but for whatever reason is not popular here. X10 feels really old.... any other alternative?

think about other certified wired domotic solution. in Italy the most distributed are myHome (legrand/bTicino), byMe (Vimar), but also Gewiss has its own domotic protocol
They are cheaper than KNX but I don0t know the "open" opportunities of those protocols, even if I'm quite sure here in the forum there are few users that have myHome (openWebNet) domotic linked to Domoticz

There is also a safety certification needed in Italy for the electric system: any diy solution is not safe by a law point of view
Even if zWave is a certified protocol, I would like to create a safer environent.

Have you come across a combined circuit breaker and relay/contactor?

Looking to upgrade a few things.

Also found Z-Lynk via powerline but seems very proprietary for energy networks. Wonder if there’s a similar one for more domestic use...
