Question: is it possible to use a zwave or klikaanklikuit device to read the status of an existing PIR? the devices I find either switch or are magnetic door contacts.

I think you can use the Fibaro binairy sensor for that.
I use them to build in a PIR sensor to transfer the status via Zwave to Domoticz.
