exported pins only show when domoticz is run as a root user

Hi,
i'm a newbie domoticz user, tying to use the gpio pins in domoticz, following the instructions on https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/GPIO
i'v tried both the SYSFS and the CLASSIC method, but i was unable to see the exported pins in domoticz. using the SYSFS method, i get no error messages. using the CLASSIC method i see a "GPIO: No exported pins found, aborting..." error in the log.
then I ran domoticz as root and i started seeing all the exported pins in domoticz (worked for both methods). So it seems to be a permission issue.
Running domoticz as a root user is not an option for me (for security reasons). So I've tried looking into documentation and forum to find a solution, but was unable to find one. Can someone tell how and which permissions to add to my domoticz user to solve this problem?
