"Include node secure" vs "include node"

Hello all,

This is my first day with Domoticz, starting small with a Raspberry Pi, a Aeotec ZW090 Z-Stick Gen5, and a Hauppauge mySmarthome 4-in-1 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hauppauge-mySm ... B00O3J9BFE) which reports itself as "Philio Technology Corporation PST02-A 4 in 1 Multi-Sensor" in Demoticz.

I set up a random Security Network Key and connected the device using "Include Node Secure". The sensors showed up, but I was unable to effect any configuration changes, which made the temp sensor mostly unusable (the default is to report temp every 6 hours and I could not change it). Resetting the sensor and connecting it using "Include Node" worked, I was able to get lux and temperature updates every 15 minutes.

My question is - just how insecure is "Include Node" vs "Include Node Secure"? Can a "non-secure" connection be disabled externally or hijacked? I tried googling and searching this forum for an answer, and I could not find a definitive comparison of the two modes in terms of the actual security they provide.

Best regards,

Michael

Hello,

I have 3 of theses sensors, securely included. Experienced problems on last 2 I installed a few weeks ago (1st was running OK since about 18 months, protecting my garage side pedestrian door opening using the switch as well as front car one using PIR). In fact, they now run well after a re-inclusion (already experienced bad z-wave inclusions if device is moved the 1 or 2 mn doing so or is done a bit far) + some mandatory tuning:

Mandatory:
Even if parameter 7 comments says recommended value is 22 for open-zwave, this does not work: Have to set this to 6. For PIR OFF notifications to be properly retrieved by controller, you must add it (node 1) to association group 2 of the PST node (under controller HW, node management menu->groups/network : The page that shows z-wave network mesh topology).

Needed?
As I also experienced sometimes several ON with no OFF for either the door switch or the PIR, I disabled all lighning & things I do not use in parameter 6, set to value 7 & parameter 20, set to 0 (disable all time related updates of temp/lux, only done on programmed variation level/%, as documentation says this disable PIR for 1s every mn).

Do not know if several on, with sometimes no off, was solved by these last 2 parameters tuning or by re-inclusion (as bad z-wave communication without ack can lead to retries).

On top of that, still unsolved, the device does not seem to retrieve parameter changes if not woke-up manually using tamper switch. So make all configuration before putting device in place. Cannot change default setting of 24h as well.

A device that is quite unmatched for it's combination of door switch/PIR but with IMO a quite buggy firmware.

Regards
