Stuck with RFXtrx433e on linux

Hi,
I'm newbie in the world of home automation. Found this fantastic software at the rfxcom site. I've been successful in getting
everything up and running on windows and some flavours of linux but when it comes to ubuntu mate I'm stuck.
Not sure if it is hardware related or something with my setup.
Everything looks ok but there seems to some issues with the communication between my RFXtrx and the software. In the log it ends
with this:
2018-02-17 18:16:45.636 RFXCOM: Using serial port: /dev/ttyUSB0
2018-02-17 18:16:54.648 subtype = Interface Command
Sequence nbr = 3
set configuration of the interface
and the nothing....
I'm not able to set any mode or anything....
The device seems to be connected at least when I check with dmesg
[ 7409.265672] ftdi_sio 5-1:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected
[ 7409.267716] usb 5-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0
Not sure where to look for the problem. Any suggestions appreciated!
