Cant use virtual switch

So, I am trying to control lights after sun up/down and a +/- time.

I setup a virtual switch, that in itself works, it's on when I expect it to be, and it shuts off when it should, my problem is using it for anything

Is there anything else you should do rather than just "watch" for on/off with if/else ?
