New home, what to use this time, Zwave or ?

Hi all,
i am not sure where to fit this topic.
I am asking this for my parents since they are moving.
In there old home they were using a old system that still works with infrared, now they want to switch to something newer but there is so much for sale and possible that its a bit risky to buy something with the risk being not fully compatible.
My dad wants a wireless system in his house, this is also because he "forgot" to add light switches in the house so wireless it is.
I sad since many people use it, you should look into Z-wave supported switches / dimmers etc.
There are so many zwave usb sticks, Zwave / zwave + , RPI 1 /2 /3.
I have read allot of topics, and i would say use a Aeon Z-stick gen5 with domoticz on a rpi.
The first raspberry,i believe the B version i still have laying around somewhere .
Is it wise to use this raspberry or better to use a newer faster version ?
The idea what we have is to use a bunch of qubino 0-10V units to control the lights in the house.
Everything is LED , also located in 1 location and the led dimmers wait for a 0-10v signal to turn on or off.
The wall switches is something i was also wondering how and what is possible.
I mean, is it like the cheap klik aan klik uit switches when you hold the button the lights turn on or dim, short push is on or off and scenes like this ?
Or is this only possible with certain switches that support this ?
My dad likes the ZRC-90 switch since it has 8 buttons.
As far as i have found some topics it only can support on/off but on a sellers website it says it just works in domoticz but not what exactly.
Can someone push us in the right direction, some advice what to do or maybe go a whole different road ?
Thanks for your time.
