I installed this in March (when it was cold) and it I experienced frequent dropouts. I suspected it had to do with overheating. My (crude) solution: an old fashioned timer in the wall socket which turns off the OTGW every 4 hours for 15 minutes. This solved the problem, although the you will see error messages in the log...

Although my problem does only exist when the OTGW has been running for some time (which would indicate a heating-problem I thought), I do find it strange that OTMonitor can read it perfectly, while Domoticz cannot read or control it at all after about one hour or so...

Too bad, I was really looking forward to being able to control the thermostat with Domoticz, but it looks like it is not going to work.

My (not so elegant) solution works. I can control the thermostat. I did so in April, just make sure you increase the setpoint 1 whole degree or more, won't accept 0,5 degree.

Yes, I also noticed about the half degree setpoint-change when I turned it on the first time. That is fine by me however, I don't mind that.

But I don't think turning it off every hour for 15 minutes (because after an hour it wil not work anymore, after half an hour it already starts to malfunction on and off) does not make for a useful OTGW, because that would mean that it be off or malfunctioning for about 50% of the time.

I checked again the exact interval I set in the timer: I started with every 2 hours, then stretched to 3 hours and now it's 4. Originally I planned to go to 5 or 6 hours, but forgot. I do agree it's far from ideal, but for me it works.

Yesterday i modified the OTGW and casing.
First i soldered a heatsink directly on the L7805 voltage regulator, as this is the component which get way to hot.
Secondly i drilled som extra holes directly above the mounted heatsink, next to the already drilled holes i made.
At third i dropped the power supply voltage from 24V DC to 19V DC.

As discribed on the PCB the input should be between 19 and 24V but this voltage goes directly to the L7805 regulator.
The output of the L7805 is 5V DC, thus the energy dissipation of the regulator should be approx. (24V-5V) * A.
When dropping the input voltage to 19V the energy dissipation should be (19V-5V) * A
V = Voltage
A = Amperage
So in this case the regulator has to dissipate less energy, and with the extra heatsink it should work a lot better.

The gateway is more stable now with the new changes.

Just looked at the Nodo shop and it is clearly to see that the voltage regulator has been changed now to a step down converter.
My conclusions were right, otherwise they didn't have to change this.

Than i did some more research, and found this:
https://www.domoticaforum.eu/viewtopic. ... d985ca45a7

Some problem, same conclusion...
Without wifi add on the voltage regulator should work fine, but with wifi add there is more power dissipation on the voltage regulator.
The only way to improve this is to drop down the voltage and apply some kind of heatsink like i did.

(other solution, buy the new version of this kit)

Hey all,

I happen to have the infamous OTGW from NODO-shop, all works well, otmonitor etc..

I can send commands via the hardware tab; CS=x works fine and the boiler starts up. Ps=1 updates most of the values.

The problem is with the control setpoint device in the temp tab, if I edit that value it does not get reflected back to the OTGW.
Nor does the CS command get updated to the control setpoint device.

Any ideas?

I returned the OTGW to the Nodo shop and they replaced the voltage regulator.
Now i have the new version, and i expect it will work as it should.

As we just bought a new (beatiful old) house, i cannot test the gateway while the Nefit Excellent heating has no OT connection.
When i have time enough i will install a converter for that, and hopefully it wil work again.

Hey,

That is good news, silly of them to use a linear voltage regulator. When I got my one it already came with the buck converter. Although if I was them I would have gone with a forward converter as it's more efficient.

May I ask, where is this newly old house?

Do you think I should move my "help request" to a new sub? As it is only partly linked to the nodo_otgw!

Cheers,

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

You can try using the firmware i made for the esp8266. It does not use the PS=1 setting. The ESP is scanning the output from the gateway and only send the data to domoticz if the value has changed. In my case this method is much more stable. I had a lot of problems with the "standard" getaway solution in domoticz. Another advantage is that you can use domoticz and the OT monitor at the same time.

My OTGW works great in combination with a ThermoSmart thermostat. However, in the log I do get a error 02 message every few minutes. I do have a NodeMcu installed and connected a 12v power supply.
This error 02 should indicate that the communication with my Calenta ACE heater is not exactly 1.25v....
However, as the voltage regulator is not perfect, this error may be due to a measurement error instead of an actual issue (OTGW works perfectly fine for more than a month). With other OTGW versions that need a 5.0v power supply, you can get errors when the voltage provided is not exactly 5.00v....

Iḿ not sure if I can ignore this error, or whether Iḿ slowly frying my heater :?

/edit: 19v adapter does not solve the issue. Hope to receive a 24v adapter soon.

Re: experience with the OTGW from NODO-shop?

Merry Christmas,

I'm using the OTGW (via nodeMCU) from Nodo-shop successfully in a stand-alone mode for some time now. The OTmonitor runs on a RPi 3,
On the same Rpi Domoticz (4.10717) runs. As I have some time now i wanted to add the OTGW to Domoticz.

I've added the hardware (opentherm gateway with LAN interface) to Domoticz on ip=192.168.1.12 and port 6638. These settings are displayed in ESP Easy under Devices-serial server.

Now the following entries appear in the Domoticz log every 30 sec.:

Code: Select all
