Samsung SmartThings Link - a new Z-Wave and Zigbee USB adapter only $15 on pre-order

Post by Gamester17 »

Hardware tip for those living in the USA or Canada!

Samsung is offering their new SmartThings Link USB dongle for only $14.99 right now:

https://shop.smartthings.com/smartthings-link

These supports both Z-Wave and Zigbee but have no documentation so could only be used in Domoticz if and when some clever developer reverse-engineer their serial UART protocol.

Right now they also offer free shipping in the US for orders over $25 so tip is to buy one of the Smart Bulb bundles, starting at $34.99 including SmartThings Link USB adapter.

I would not.

These are for expensive nvidea shield stuff..
which you do not mention :?

and buying stuff on the assumption some "clever" developer decodes to proprietary protocol somewhere in the future...

and then as a tip also get the "package" including light bulbs...

why buy more hardware that is not working unless you have an expensive nvidea shield or the protocol is figured out...

no...

the usb stick is cheap enough maybe for a dev willing to play with it and risking throwing away $15... :ugeek:
or you already own a nvidia shield :-)

Why not just buy a dongle that already works like the Aeotec or z-wave.me UZB, both are only around $80 - $100 anyway...

In Australia thats about the same price as a Smart Switch 6 appliance module so really not very expensive.
