Looking for advice re heating (Horstmann / Secure)

Post by C4rtm4N »

I've not been doing much with my Domoticz for the last year but recently decided to convert my central heating so that I can set it from within the app but I could do with a bit of advice regarding how others deal with some problems that I can see.

I have a Secure SSR302 dual channel actuator that had replaced my old central heating timer and a Horstmann HRT4-ZW thermostat. Rather than configuring them in the Horstmann recommended way, which I know doesn't work very well with zwave controllers, I have paired them up directly with Domoticz and then assigned the thermostat to one of the groups on the receiver. This is where my questions start -

1) It doesn't matter whether I pair the thermostat to group 1 (thermostat mode off / heat) or group 2 (binary switch on / off), the heating comes on but doesn't show in Domoticz by changing either the switch or the thermostat mode indicator. I've read that this equipment may not be great but has anyone got experience of getting this to work?
2) Hot water works on a timer really well but what would people recommend regarding the heating? As things stand it's technically on all of the time but just triggers the boiler when temperature drops below the set point but this means I don't see it show as on (as per last question). I had thought about leaving it like this and just having the set point scheduled to change during the day but without the indicator it will just confuse my wife and kids. Equally I'd thought about additionally having the heat button available for them to press & have it time out after an hour but this would need a script to prevent it just cooking everyone in the house by constantly heating for that hour no matter what the temperature is. Finally I'd thought about writing some Lua scripts to look at both a timetable and the temperature so that I essentially get something closer to what I had before. What do the rest of you guys do?

Finally, the receiver initially added 4 devices (a switch and a thermostat mode indicator per channel) but they multiplied last night & I'm not sure why - there are now 26 devices (13 of each type) and they all work/are linked (switch 1, 3, 5, 7, etc all turn on when one is pressed). I've tried removing them but they just keep coming back - any idea how to fix this without removing / re-adding the whole thing so that I can keep my system tidy?

Thanks

Hi there was reading your post and sounded really interesting.

I am running a Domoticz system on Raspberry Pi for my home and was also interested in the Horstmann / Secure SSR302 dual channel and SSR301 single channel heating / hot water actuators.

Do you have an update on how using the SSR302? Would really like to hear a little bit more.
