Hi,

I'm running Domoticz and i'm very happy with it, but i would like to attach a relatively simple/cheap tablet to the wall so i can control things from there.
Anyone did that? Good tips about tablet model?

Any tablet should work. You also need to buy a wall mount suited for your tablet of choice. Check ebay, dx, or amazon for cheap tablets.
You can find a great customizable frontpage to have on your tablet in this post: https://www.domoticz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4698

I have 4 tablets in the house.
1 wallmounted nexus 7, 1 nexus 7 with dock and 2 cheap tablets on stands (fire 7 and cheap Chinese tab).
All run imperihome as a front end to Domoticz and also LanAnnouncer for TTS and soon for doorbell chime.
This setup works great especially as you can make imperihome show cameras full screen on motion. Has helped many times when my current dumb doorbell has failed and someone is at the door.

Thanks. Imperihome does not have direct Domoticz compatibility right?

I used a Samsung TAB 10.1. Some things to consider.
  • Get a tablet that will not go to sleep when attached to line power
  • Get a tablet with a proximity sensor, trust me you don't want to wait until the tablet has booted
  • Get a tablet where the powercord that doesn't stick out to much (or easily to hide)
  • I used Domoticz app for android
As I stated at bullit 3 "Used". I found it a very disappointing try.
  • The tablet stays on to long (before it dims), at evening it lights the room.
  • Now and then the tablet shuts itself down, so when you need it, you can wait until it's booted and reconnected to the domoticz server.
  • Always having arguments with the power cable

Are those the old or newer models of the Nexus 7? I find that the older (<2012 I believe) do not work pretty with Domoticz.

I use a samsung tab e. The tablet doenst have a proximity sensor but as I have no lock screen, a push on the button and the tablet goes to the last opend app, in my case that is full screen browser.

About the mounting on the wall: i made a mountingbox in the wall (abb md4050), I screwed a plate on the mountingbox, on the plate I used 2 strips of 3m dual lock velcro which stick also on the tablet.

For the powersupply I ordered a qi wireless charging receiver pad mirco usb. Cutted the receiving part and soldered an usb cable to the flatcable. This way the charging micro usb plug is almost invisible.

I have both. The older one sits on the official dock. Both work perfectly with imperihome.

I use a 2nd hand tab 3 8.0 with Dashticz, that looks much nicer than the Domoticz app. To activate the screen, I use the app motion detector, together with another little app 'turn screen' to turn on the screen automatically. It will turn off when no motion is detected (is: front camera). The timing for turning the screen off of based on the normal screen turn off from Android. For both apps I have an (little older) app that I can share. Please PM. This week I added a Tasker profile to it, so it updates motion detection in Domoticz as well (json command to switch on a virtual switch). I now only look for a way to use my pir sensor to turn on the screen in very, or no light situations.

Please let us know if you found a solutions for this, I used the camera of the tablet for motion detection, but that doesn't really work. Lot of false positives.

Hi

I actully did this a while ago, but doesnt use it anymore and the tablet is wiped. However I remember that I used Tasker and trigged a task based on notifications. So the pir in my kitchen did send a notification to the tablet (can remember which service) and then tasker trigged a event which turned on the display and opened the app. :)

From my side I haven't found a solution. However, the PIR triggers a LED strip in the 'vitrinekast' during the night, giving enough light to walk safely. This is also enough light for the tablet in the current mounting location to see a difference and to turn the screen on.
