How to reduce the footprint

Post by jdpiguet »

Hi all,

I'm looking to install Domoticz in a virtual machine, running Debian.
No problem for compilation/installation (good information here).
But, the final size of the Domoticz directory is more than 400MB!
So I would like to reduce it. What sub-directories/files are necessary to run?
What can I remove?

Regards, Jacques-D.

Wouldn't you be better of buying a bigger disk as you want to create a VM ? This domoticz directory will increase over time as more functionality is added, backups are made, log is increased, scripts are made etc etc. Also if you remove directories, they probably will be back as soon as you update anyway.

If you stop compiling, and use the 'other' install methods outlined here:

http://www.domoticz.com/downloads/

(hmmm a download page)

try the 'sudo ...' method

then you will see the footprint is very small

another way, checkout one of these downloads, build in another folder, copy only the exe/config/www folder (and others)

Thanks for the quick answers!

About buying bigger disks: I'm doing the compilation on a different machine, where all development tools are installed.
It allows me to compile and test before moving the binaries to the VM running the "real" server.
As the VM runs on a collocated HW, I prefer to keep it small.

The hint about the "other" install methods was a good one, I will get it and compare the result of the compilation and the contents of the tar file.

BTW, I wrote a comment about the systemd service script. But I don't know if I'm allowed to write the edit directly in the wiki...
