I sort-of get what the idea behind a scene is, but what's the difference between a scene and a group?

I can't find anything in the documentation wiki. There's not even a page called scene.

Hey,

A "group" is a set you can turn on or off together. Like a big extension cord with a power switch.
They all go on or off.

A "scene" is a predefined setup of lights. So you can setup 1 light to be on, another to off. Have the ledstrip/milight set to a nice blue color.
That's also why you can't switch a scene off, but only to on.

So for example a group is used to turn all lights off when you leave the house.
And a scene is used when you have a nice setup of lightning you want when you are going to watch a movie.

Continuing on the tread what is a scene. How do you turn a device off? I can only select on in the timer, there is no off option.

Just as stated above. You make scenes that you like. One scene can be a cozy one for dining. Another can be a very dark scene for sleeping. This scene will turn every light off. Call that scene "Off" and use that one when you want to go to bed.

You never turn a scene on and off. You only activate a single scene (turning it on).

And just for extra clarity, if scene X contains the same devices as scene Y and you run X after Y, it will 'replace' whatever Y did with those devices with what it's supposed to do with those devices. So if X is a scene where everything is off and you run it, you'll turn 'off' whatever Y did when it ran.

On the group vs scene thing, groups are on/off type actions whereas scenes have additional parameters such as dimming, RGBW color, blinds tilt, music volume, etc. More an 'analog' world than a 'digital' world, as it were

Actually, you can set the dim level and RGB color to a group as well. A welcome addition action would be kelvin level (or at least so that the "on" / "off" command would not change the current color temperature). This is probably something I need to investigate more as I haven't witnessed the same behavior with all of my RGB+CCT bulbs, but at least one set of them always goes to the coolest color temperature after I turn them of via group they belong to. So I guess I need to remove it from the group and just add a script to the "on action" that forces them always to a "default" kelvin level...

newbie here so please be gentle i was able to integrate 5 Somfy motorized blinds which work flawlessly. Now i want to create what i think should be a group to open them up or close all together. That's what i did - you can see that i added all 5 blinds:

Thats is not a group you have. You have to add a scene then intstaed of choosing a scene you select group and add your devices there.
