Firmware updates

Hello!

I'm still quite new to the z-wave stuff and can unfortunately due to my job only work on it in my limited spare time (but then I use all time I have 8-) ). One thing I stumbled upon was, that for some devices (like, e.g., Fibaro smoke detectors) the vendors can issue firmware updates, which might also enable new functionality (in this case, an update might enable the Fibaro smoke detector to also act as alarm siren like the Popp devices) or improve stability.

My question is, how these updates are applied, where the firmware files can actually be acquired and whether this can be done through Domoticz, or whether I have to buy the control system from each vendor (which I obviously wouldn't want).

I'd be happy if somebody could bring a bit more clarity in this whole Z-Wave firmware jungle to me. Thanks a lot in advance!

I have an open ticket with AEON for a illuminator which does not dim down but just shut off (btw this issue seems to be a wires/impedence issue)
They told me that firmware is not a user option... any update must be done in their labs....

maybe this does not apply to all products but at least to AEON

ciao

OTA (Over the air) updates is a feature that was added in zwave plus (Gen 5).

I don't think Openzwave supports this.

But I did find this for a MultiSensor6:

Hi Sneezydevil,

this is a pretty cool finding you made. Perhaps stuff like that should be kept in a central place (or ideally Domoticz would inform users about available firmware updates).

Okay - so OpenZWave needs to take care about the OTA updates, if I get you right. Perhaps I'll post a request there then.

Thanks for your response.
