3G dongle on Rpi

i have an Rpi with usb gateway which reads several nodes over a greenhouse, and sends notifications when neccessary.
in the last 3 weeks we added another security device for our internet - a simple electricity timer which disconnect the modem to prevent hackers from hacking our network.

now, without internet - domoticz cannot send any notifications which currently based on emails only.
some of these notification include nodes which monitor burglar alarm buzzer and informs the right person - so it makes it crucial to overcome this problem.

i've checked about android sms gateway through lan\wifi connection but couldnt make it work.

i thought about connecting the Rpi to a 3g dongle so it will have an independent internet connection but i dont know how to configure the port forwarding on this device(if exists?).

does anybody has a solution for this? maybe 3g router like this?

Alot of the 3G / 4G Providers block incoming traffic so even with a router that supports port forwarding it might not work. But is port forwarding needed? I guess Domoticz can sent out notifications without the port forwards.

Another option might be using the 3g modem as a sms gateway (Depends on the dongle).

If you need remote access you could built a reverse ssh tunnel over 3G. This would mean you need a external endpoint.

thanks for the quick reply

well the port forward needed for the external access - which maybe i can use the MyDomoticz account for this reason.

now you got me an idea - maybe i can still use the lan for everyday notfication and external view, and on the "dead" hours use the dongle as a backup for notifications only. depends if the RPi could handle the jumps between internet source...

MyDomoticz works fine over NAT-ed / firewalled 3G router. I also use OpenVPN and ssh tunnels to a stationary endpoint at home to be able to communicate to the remote Domoticz over 3G. Keep-alive traffic for these connections amounts to 15-25MB/day .
BTW: I used to have a similar dLink, but retired that for a TP-Link AC750 Wireless Dual Band 4G LTE Router (Archer MR200 ). D-Link has a veird support model , i.e. no more updates for my old revision after the product was released with a new one.
