Alecto SA-33

Post by Scheffie »

Hello,

Is it possible to connect the SA-33 smoke detector with a rfxcom 433? And if so, how can I configure them?

Greetings

Yes, it's possible, I have six of these smoke detectors with Domoticz. You need a RFXtrx433E, and then make sure you are on firmware "Ext" (http://www.rfxcom.com/Downloads) with minimum version 1008 (since Alecto SA33 alarms were added in that version).

After you're on the right firmware on your RFXtrx433E, you need to have the "Oregon Scientific" protocol enabled in the RFXtrx433E. As soon as you press the "Test" button on the Smoke alarm, and Domoticz is listening for new devices ofcourse, then the device will show up as new device in Domoticz. It will send out a "Panic" string. You can also set off the smoke alarm through Domoticz, it will sound for 25 seconds.

Cant get the SA33 to get known by Domoticz. Got the RFXtrx433E with firmware Version: Ext2/1021. Modus is set to all except "undec on".
Smokealarm is ringing like hell but RFXCOM isnt picking it up.

Any suggestion is appreciated. :-)

did you enable Oregon and use Ext firmware? Check with RFXmngr and only Oregon enabled.
See chapter 2.2.2 in the RFXtrx User Guide.

Is it an option to use Ext firmware instead of Ext2 firmware ? Is this even possible ?

Yes, Ext can be used.
The RFXtrx433E can use all firmware types.
The RFXtrx433 can use Type1 or Type2.

See the "Important_Readme.txt" in the firmware zip files

Thanks for the above. I used it to get my Alecto SA33 working. But I had another question. I got 3 of those, on each floor one. I want to get a seperate push notification for each floor , so a seperate switch for each smokedetector. Now if I add a switch , it recognise this as an existing one.

Did anyone of you guys got this working or you use multi smokedectors on one switch? It is possible to change the SA33 to seperate switches? Thanks.

Are these not working with Rfxtrx433 with type 1 or 2?

Hey Boris, did you ever get them to work separately? I have three SA-41 that are working with Domoticz, but two of them at the same switch.
I did connect them to eachother (dunno how to disconnect them), I'd like to keep it that way so they also work independently of Domoticz.

Lastly, unfortunately they don't sound when I press the switch in Domoticz.

PS I added them through 'Learn' in switches. Adding them through 'Settings / devices' works but the switches aren't doing anything then.

I also tried to connect the SA33 smoke detectors with an RFXcom, which I finally succeeded in, I had to hold the smoke detector against the antenna and press the "Test" button, and then the detector appears in the device list.

So the next thing was testing with the smoke detectors in the house, I noticed that domoticz only sets them to sound when the detectors are very close to the antenna.

so it doesn't work for me .....
Disappointment in this combination so ......

Since smoke detectors will become mandatory in the Netherlands as of the 1st of July of 2022, I have purchased an Alecto SA-41.
According to the RFXCOM manual, these should be compatible with the RFXCOM and the post of Wiley confirms that.
I THINK I have done everything right (EXT firmware, version 1025, enabled Oregon Scientific, enabled "detection of new switches", pressed the "test" button on the SA-41.
I used various distances (varying from 5 meters to having the RFXCOM and SA-41 virtually touch eachother). However, the RFXCOM doesn't seem to detect the SA-41.
Also tried to connect the RFXCOM to my PC and use RFXmngr as by the post of b_weijenberg (switching of all protocols except oregon). However: No dice.
KAKU and Alecto temperature/humidity sensor work fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

My setup (based on the info from RFXmngr)
Hardware version: RFXtrx433E 1.3
Firmware version: 1025
Firmware type: EXT
Domoticz version: 2022.1 (on synology NAS in docker)
Enabled protocols:
- Rubicson, Alecto, Bangood
- LaCrosse
- Hideki, TFA, Cresta, UPM
- Oregon Scientific
- HomeEasy EU
- AC
- ARC
- X10

Appreciate your rapid and adequate response Walter! Thx.
I have followed your advice and used the RFXCOM contact form to reach out to them.
Also I purchased (for other reasons) an additional RFXCOM (the XL version) which will arrive over the next days.
Either way I'll post an update in the near future on my progress.

RFXCOM support was very quick in responding. Their advice was to flash the RFXtrx433E with the Pro1 firmware. I used the latest version at this moment (RFXtrx433E_Pro1_1045) and that did the trick. Now the RFXCOM recognizes the smoke detector without problems and without affecting my existing stuff (mainly KAKU switches and Alecto temperature sensors, which are still working fine).

Note 1: I used the same method as Wiley, which is to use the "learn" button in tab "switches".
Note 2: I did not experience the "distance" problems as described by dzjr: The devices are recognized even at a fair distance of more than 15 meters.
Note 3: As backup I also purchased a new RFXtrx433XL. That came out of the box with Firmware RFXtrx433XL_ProXL1_1045 and that was working flawlessly immediately.

Next step is to play around with two other variables: pairing the smoke detectors has certain advantages, but it looks like two (or more) paired devices can only show up in domoticz as one. I am not sure if that is what I want, so my next move is to test the master/slave settings in domoticz and see if I can get these settings to work to my advantage.
