Security CAM Overlay in XBMC

I found a neat addon on XBMC.org forum that might be of interest for someone else Domoticz user...

I installed this addon http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=182540 on my OpenELEC 3.2.3 machine.
On one of my RaspberryPi's I have a webcam plugged in which can take snapshots of the driveway outside my house. In the addon I have configured the correct url to my webcam to capture an image when the addon is activated from XBMC by my remote control.

In my main Domoticz machine I have created a virtual "Push On button" with a "On action" with the url to my OpenElec machine (also "Off delay" = 1 second for the button):

Code: Select all

http://192.168.0.122/jsonrpc?request={%22jsonrpc%22:%222.0%22,%22method%22:%22Addons.ExecuteAddon%22,%22params%22:{%22addonid%22:%22script.securitycam%22},%22id%22:%221%22}}
The url launches the XBMC addon.

When I press the button in Domoticz a snapshot of my webcam is displayed on my OpenELEC screen, even if there is an active playback of LiveTV etc. My future plan is to add a motion sensor to trigger the image capturing instead of the manual pushbutton.

Could you please show how does it look like 'live'?
I didn't do any XBMC stuff but I see it mentioned everywhere on the domoticz forums, so...

But XBMC can only popup that on screen while watching movie on/via XBMC source, not normal TV - right?

No, not "normal" TV. I watch LiveTV with XBMC as frontend and Tvheadend on my NAS as backend.

Very interested in this, can you post a picture of the result?

Also, how does the RPi cope with both running the camera AND XBMC?

I don't run this setup anymore, maybe I should bring it back up. I have forgotten this totally.
What I did was to run two separate Pi's.

I'm using this XBMC/KODI/OpenELEC addon, works very good.
I made a xbmc notify (bash) script for it, read about it here:

Hi!

Can anyone confirm if this still works as of the current betas?

It seems to have stopped working since the last stable...
