Hi all,
Does anyone know why it's not possible for me to search "Amazon Echo" in either the forum or the wiki?
You don't have permission to access /forum/search.php?keywords=amazon+echo on this server.
My UK version is on order and I want to be ready for it...

looks like its the word echo.

Search for "Amazon Echo" instead, in the quotes.

Ah! Well done! :D
Well, that's part way there. Search results show up... but locked out "403"
Still locked out of the "Amazon Echo" wiki page
https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Amazon_echo
but can access it via a search for "Alexa".
That opens up a whole new can of worms though
Which method? HA-Bridge or go this route

Fun times ahead ;)

Well broke this morning and ordered the full size one too... The idea of everyone else talking to there lights and other switches a month before me was just to great :D (Have not canceled the DOT :) )

I am going down the HA Route. I tried the other method yesterday and my god its complex.. .The HA bridge looks simple.. So I ordered another pi to setup this weekend in prep for the echo.

I think I'll be going the HA route too.
My sons have each demanded a dot for their rooms  I wonder if 3 devices on the same network will play music etc. independently of each other?

I am waiting for the Google Home device for my music side... Another toy in November :)

Which is why I wont buy to many of the echo devices before google announces the Home of the 4th of Oct....

Depending on what the Google product integrates with will depend on which route I go down with the voice side..

I went ahead and bought one but I'm also waiting for Google Home. I figured that Oct 4th is within my two week return period so took advantage of the £50 off and will just return it. I really hope that the Echo does finally get notification support so I can use it as my TTS engine!

I'd much prefer Google Home and I think it'll be better in the long term... but still not released!
BTW you can play google music on Amazon... kinda. It needs to be downloaded from GM then uploaded to AM. A bit of a pain, but I've made a start with my most played tracks.

Bugger that... I have about 40Gb of music in Google :D

It also depends on when Google Home is released and what it supports... If its not out until November (UK) then I might cancel the Dot but keep the Echo... If its not coming over here until 2017 then I will get the Dot as well..The Home also is much bigger than the Dot which I plan on celling mounting and running over POE.

The home if all it supports is google services (and whatever half baked home automation they think we want) then I might get a couple around the house... Hoping for Hue support so the HA Bridge option can be run in parallel with the Echo.

This for me is definitely the missing link for my automation. Original plan was a pi and touch screen in each room but voice will be way easier... The only worry I have is relying on third party support (HA Bridge) to keep it all tied together. Amazon or Philips could probably break it should they wish.

I have my google music streaming to kodi so I am trying to see if I can control that remotely
