Which hardware roadmap?

Post by chrispazz »

Hello,
I have a mixed of hardware items in my home environment:

- some X10 lights, switches and motion controllers
- a SC9000 security controller with some X10 Security sensors (1 movement sensor and some door/windows sensors)
- a CM15Pro interface
- Some Philips Hue lights with its router
- a Netatmo Thermostat
- a generic IP Camera (Tenvis)
- a Kodi installation
- Smart TV
- a couple of Raspberry (PI & PI3)
- a Synology NAS
- some apple devices

Currently I am using a raspberry PI3 with Kodi and Domoticz as my main domotic controller but I am asking myself in which direction go for new hardwares....
Will I have to switch gradually to newer protocols (Insteon, ZWave, ecc..)?

What do you think? Which is the roadmap to reduce money impact and reuse most of my hardware?

Thank you
Chris

Sell it all, small profit, saves you lot of money in the future and your hardware is reused.

No serious. All depends on what you want to do. If you are serious then ask the question what needs automation or can be used to improve your current setting, air control (vent, co2 meter, smoke) ? weather station? etc.. do your research and the hardware writes itself. Or if you are like me, what toys you want to play with? toy of today for me is the sphero which I am going to code that it follows me around using viewtopic.php?t=11908 and maybe some opencv. why? it's fun.

No, no. It's going to follow the cat around, all the camera's are at cat height anyway... there goes your privacy puzpuz!

And on the serious site i'm building 10 moisture mysensor nodes on battery, such that my plants won't almost die that often.

Mysensors are cheap but you have to build them yourself.

You could look at: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/vesp ... x/14565247#/
it's cheap, the guy is on this forum http://domoticz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=12669
and you can use the same sensors as mysensors.

buy a zstick wave if you really want more design (better looking) sensors (which are also more expensive)*
buy a rflink you could use it on your pi instead of those x10 controller thingy... also the protocol for weather stations.
For security cam's pi zero's are cheap with cam (well still 30 euro's with all accessories)

* well that is my opinion i kinda like the fibaro look. Not much for the aeonlab look thou...

Stick with hue for lighting.

Options enough... but a roadmap is up to you and your imagination. What do you want (to build, to play, to automate)?
