I've been discussing this with a couple of guys at work, and am wondering from anyone else if these seems possible at all.

Are there general APIs to connect to SmartTVs to be able to display custom messages on screen using the TV's native on screen display, based on events from Domoticz?

For example, if a door bell is pressed, or some other kind of switch... using the Notifications system, could a message be displayed on a TV screen via it's native interface?

OR... does anyone know of any hardware that will sit in between an HDMI source and the TV, that will allow the same thing?

Kodi does. You can enable that as notification in your settings.

SamsungTV C, D series you can use the sms functionality to popup messages:

But it is kinda useless until you can choose what notification to trigger (in my opinion), see:

You do not want all notifications on the tv screen.

If you sent the notifications from your script you have full control over what's shown and what not.

But then have to handle all the api stuff yourself. I would rather have domoticz do that.

I have a Techwood Smart TV (I believe it's an Hitachi). Anyone know of any API or something to hook into?

Or maybe where I would go about looking?

I have a Sony TV with Android TV, maybe it is possible to adapt the domoticz app to work on Android TV as well and to support notifications?

That would be a novelty! No chance unfortunately.

Hmm I'm going to say it's not looking good for a cheaper, lesser known brand then. The next option would be maybe to try and hook into SkyHD's box to display some form of text notifications

Or is there a hardware device with an HDMI in and out, that can relay overlay of messages on the output view?
